Sixty Seconds for Sixty Days

Last updated 4 years ago

Today is International Literacy Day! Forty-nine years ago, UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) named September 8th as International Literacy Day to emphasize the importance of reading and writing to the welfare of every individual and every nation.
This year the International Reading Association has put together a program of free digital and print materials called "Lift Off to Literacy" that gets kids involved in a challenge to spend just 60 seconds a day for 60 days doing a literary activity.
Watch this inspiring video of astronaut Kjell Lindgren telling us about "Lift Off to Literacy" and how important reading has been to his life and career.
