"Let my life as Poet begin." - Maxine Hong Kingston
April is National Poetry Month! Poetry and spring go hand-in-hand. A poem can open our eyes to new ideas and train our ears to hear the rhythm and music of language.
Check out one of these events that celebrate the joy of poetry reading and writing:
San Francisco Public Library
Celebrates National Poetry Month with special events and classes this month.
SFPL also has special events for kids next week. Check out their Early Literacy Mobile's "Dia de los Ninos / Dia de los Libros" on Sunday, April 6 and their trip to the Zoo on Wednesday, April 9.
Listen to award-winning poets read one of their poems, write your own poem in response, and email it to the project by April 30. Winners' poems will be published on Poets.org in May.
April 24 is Poem in Your Pocket Day
All over the country, people will be putting poems in their pockets and sharing them with others throughout the day. You can also Tweet your poem with hashtag #pocketpoem.
