Independence Day Reading List

Last updated 3 years ago

"Understanding Freedom’s Heritage: How to Keep and Defend Liberty" is a summer reading list compiled by United States Supreme Court Justice Anthony M. Kennedy.

As we celebrate our nation's Independence Day, take a look at some of the
books, speeches, documents, and films that have shaped our values about freedom.

Along with the "classics" from writers like Sophocles, Shakespeare, Ghandi, Abraham Lincoln, and Martin Luther King, Jr., you might be surprised at some of the other items listed such as Lou Gehrig's speech and films like A Few Good Men, Shawshank Redemption, and Legally Blonde.
