From the UPSStore.com:
The UPS Store® network and the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation have teamed up to provide books to less fortunate children through the Toys for Tots Literacy Program.
Launched in March 2008, the Toys for Tots Literacy Program is the first year-round initiative of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation and offers the nation’s most economically disadvantaged children the ability to compete academically and to succeed in life by providing them direct access to books and educational resources that enhance their ability to read and to communicate effectively.
As sponsors of the Toys for Tots Literacy Program, participating The UPS Store locations will sell children's activity sheets throughout the month of May to focus on the importance of summer reading.
According to the National Summer Learning Association, children can lose up to three months of what they’ve learned during the school year over summer break. This “summer slide” can be even more devastating to children in lower-income families where reading scores are disproportionately affected and access to books during the summer is limited.
Centers will continue additional fundraising activities throughout the year, including a coin box program for customers to donate their spare change. Then, during November and December, participating locations will sell donation cards.
One-hundred percent of all proceeds go to support local children and literacy programs. Every dollar helps put a book into the hands of a local child in need!
Mail Boxes Etc., Inc. and its brands, The UPS Store and Mail Boxes Etc., are the exclusive sponsors of the Toys for Tots Literacy Program.
Thanks to your support, more than $1.6 million has been contributed to the program since its inception, helping to deliver books to children across the country.
